Pair of three-vehicle crashes on Redwood Highway leaves one dead

Two three-vehicle accidents on Redwood Highway resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries Friday.

At approximately 7:27 a.m., Oregon State Police troopers and emergency personnel responded to a three-car crash near milepost 30, about 1 mile south of Cave Junction.

In a press release, the Oregon State Police said that a Toyota 4Rrunner driven by Clyde McDonald of Cave Junction was northbound when it crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a Ford Explorer. The 4Runner then hit a Ford F-250 pickup driven by 35-year-old Paul Taylor of Cave Junction.

Taylor sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, OSP said.

McDonald, the driver of the 4Runner, was airlifted to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford with injuries. The driver of the Explorer, 29-year-old Shawn Fodor, was uninjured.

The crash caused the highway to be partially closed for five hours.

Less than an hour after all lanes were reopened, another crash occurred near milepost 11, 1 mile north of Wonder.

According to a social media post by Rural/Metro Fire, three vehicles were involved in a crash reported at 12:28 p.m. An infant who was in one of the vehicles was taken to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. Six other occupants of the vehicles were not injured, Rural/Metro said.

The Oregon Department of Transportation issued an update at 4:41 p.m. saying all lanes of Redwood Highway were back open and delays were expected until heavy traffic cleared.

The infant was believed to be “doing well,” Rural/Metro Division Chief Austin Prince said Friday night.
